Updated forecast

When I last posted estimating the start of the 2025 maple season in my location, the extended forecast showed favorable temperatures starting Feb 28 and the first 5 days in March. That forecast has changed, it now looks more like March 11 and beyond with the most favorable sap flow temperatures starting March 15-16 and not really good until the following week.

As I stated in my previous post my latest date for my first boil of the year was March 28th. I have however lost track of which year that was. As I recall I got a few days of minor sap flow before that date, but because the evaporator I had then needed 300 gal of sap before I could start boiling.

I’m now scaled back and my current evaporator can start a boil at 150 gal of sap. That can help in the early part of each season. As I stated before, time will tell. As it looks right now I’m guessing I might be in syrup about March 20 or so, but it’s only a guess.
