After several months of hip pain, I’m going to an orthopedic surgeon today to see if a new hip is in my future. For about 7-8 months I’ve had recuring issues with my left hip. It seems if I turn with weight on my left leg in either direction I get a sharp pain in my left hip, and recuntly I’ve been using a cane which helps some.
Hopefully the issue can be solved. It’s hard enough for a 79 yr old (I will be 79 as I tap trees for the next season) without the issue of a bad hip. I’ll update this once I find out what the Dr says.
Wish me good luck!
Update, Surgery for a new hip is scheduled for 8/26. They were putting me on a cancellation list, might possibly be sooner, but I’m not counting on it. At least it will be done so I can tap trees when the time comes and repair the lines as needed. I’ll need to reset the vacuum pump and sap tanks after having to move them to take that leaning sugar maple down before it fell on the sugarhouse or the equipment. I’ll do those after my new hip is done. I’ve cut 22 blocks from that tree, still have 6 or 7 from the trunk to go, and 3 from the stump which I intentionally cut high (mostly because of my bad hip). My long time helper, my Grandson Adam will be visiting starting tomorrow for 2 weeks. He’s with his significant other, she then leaves for Africa after a week, Adam says he will cut those remaining blocks. He got out of the Navy recently and is going for his masters, but school is out now. She is also in college, both are on the GI bill.
Good luck Dave, I pray for an answer to your pain.
