Just a short note, it may hit a note with older readers, but likely not the younger ones. As I posted in my previous post, I had to cut down a medium size hemlock tree that was leaning towards my shop building that sets about 80′ away from the sugarhouse. In my spare time I’m helping my youngest son wire in a 5000 watt Jackery so he has backup power during a grid down situation. He is an I.T. man for a local community college and usually works from home. In his job, his computer needs to work. So, he needs more than the 30 minutes backup power he has with his computer (UPS) auto backup battery. Thus, he bought the Jackery 5000 and transfer switch.
In wiring the transfer switch in we had to run 6 ga wires between the service panel and the transfer switch by Jackery in order to have a 100A breaker sending power to the Jackery transfer switch. I got to thinking I should use some dielectric contact grease on the connections and realized it was at the shop. I took the car down and because I had just loafers on as I drove down (just 3 miles away) I’m thinking I’ll drive the car up close to the shop so I can walk in on crushed stone rather than thru some of the mud farther away. In just 5-6 hours between cutting the tree down and returning for the dielectric contact greaseI forgot that hemlock was blocking the way. So I had to navigate some mud (just bad enough to get my shoes muddy, underneath is solid ) work around the tree and then up to the shop. Had this happened 10 yrs ago I’m thinking I’d have remembered the tree and put my boots on, but no such thing yesterday.
For the younger readers, being in the golden years at 78 yrs old, isn’t what I expected, but I’m just glad I can still do most of what I used to do, just slower.
